County Budget-Driven Office Closure Options
Scenario
County commissioners close county buildings/office one day a week as a budget saving measure for the county, and the OSU Extension office is located in a county-owned facility. These options are entirely budget-driven.
Option 1
- Faculty and A&P employees continue to work their full week following the professional scheduling policy http://extensionhr.osu.edu/Documents/Work_and_Personal_Lives.doc (doc).
- CCS and bi-weekly paid employees (PAs) work four 10-hour days.
Assumptions
-
County Extension office has budget to support a fully staffed office.
Rationale/Outcomes
- Does not decrease OSU Extension’s presence and work being done within the county. Support staff will be there to answer phones, etc.
- Falls within OSU and OSU Extension and FLSA ( http://www.dol.gov/whd/flsa/) and guidelines.
- Keeps employee morale intact.
Option 2
- Faculty and A&P employees continue to work their full week following the professional scheduling policy http://extensionhr.osu.edu/Documents/Work_and_Personal_Lives.doc.
- CCS and bi-weekly paid employees (PAs) are reduced (RIF) 20 percent of their current positions (no severance would be paid according to OSU Policy http://hr.osu.edu/ohrc/er_reductioninforce.aspx.
Assumptions
- County commissioners will not permit OSU Extension to enter the building, and/or
- County Extension budget has been reduced by county commissioners.
Rationale/Outcomes
- May decrease OSU Extension’s presence and work being done within the county since no one will be in the office to answer phones on the day the office is closed. Work with your regional director and Extension Human Resources to determine appropriate actions.
- Falls within OSU and OSU Extension and FLSA (http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/flsa/) policies and guidelines.
- Employee morale will be affected.
