    A multistate research team aimed at developing America’s biobased industry — biobased products, bioenergy and the like — will meet to discuss what might be blocking the road and ways to move ahead. The group’s members come from nearly three dozen U.S. land-grant universities, including The Ohio State University.

    Growers and others interested in learning more about the Ohio hops research at The Ohio State University can attend tours of its hop fields in both Piketon and Wooster. The Hops Production to Enhance Economic Opportunities for Farmers and Brewers project is offering early stage growers, advanced growers and anyone else interested in hops production an opportunity to tour the hop research trials. The trials are taking place at The Ohio State University South Centers in Piketon and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster.

    Join us in northeast Ohio to talk about plasticulture strawberry production. For those of us north of I-70, this type of produce requires some unique management due to early frosts and winter conditions. Thus, we will give an overview of plasticulture strawberry production and focus on the unique issues in the northern half of Ohio. As popularity grows, so do the benefits of using plasticulture, such as increased profit and efficiency.

    The Northwest Ohio Precision Ag Technology Day will offer farmers and crop consultants a chance to focus on nutrient management. Topics include: Soil phosphorus recommendations Soil nitrogen rate and source considerations Nitrogen timing and placement strategies Tools for nitrogen management In the afternoon, participants will be able to attend field demonstrations from industry professionals that will focus on nutrient placement and timing.

Participants will learn about the process and practice using tools to gain a more in-depth understanding of how to select the right tool(s) to successfully help groups accomplish their desired outcomes.
