    For novice and experienced pumpkin growers and crop consultants – this event will focus on multiple topics including current and unregistered fungicides used to control powdery mildew and offer a first-hand view of their efficacy in demonstration trials, said Jim Jasinski, an Ohio State University Extension educator and Integrated Pest Management program coordinator. Participants will also see a demonstration of how aerial imagery is being used to advance early and late season pest management in cucumbers and pumpkin.

    This year’s Composting in Ohio industry tour in southwest Ohio will focus on managing water. The stops on the tour will feature, for example, a large-scale composting facility that recently took steps to better control its surface water runoff and a dairy-restaurant complex that treats millions of gallons of graywater in a system of wetlands. Also covered will be preparing for a possible H5N1 avian influenza outbreak in Ohio and, if that happens, the possible need to compost thousands or even millions of dead poultry.

    The Carroll and Harrison Soil and Water Conservation Districts, NRCS and OSU Extension are offering a series of free programs on backyard food production from March to October. This program encourages the utilization of your backyard or unused green space for food production while creating wildlife habitat and supporting the conservation of our natural resources. This is a great program for gardeners of all skill levels. See attached flier for more information.

Every leader possesses her or his own unique set of talents. According to the Gallup Organization, "we spend too much time focusing on our weaknesses, trying to make them stronger rather than recognizing our strengths." When you focus on your weaknesses, you miss out on utilizing what you do best for your organization.

    A multistate research team aimed at developing America’s biobased industry — biobased products, bioenergy and the like — will meet to discuss what might be blocking the road and ways to move ahead. The group’s members come from nearly three dozen U.S. land-grant universities, including The Ohio State University.
