    The Statewide Sheep Shearing School will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19. No class size limit, and the cost is $40 per student which must be returned with registration form (attached) by Friday, Sept. 11. As part of the registration fee, a box lunch and drinks will be provided each day of the school.

    Each boot camp has six five-hour sessions. Every session includes training and technical support for participants as they complete a personal work session. The cost will be $120 per participant.     The Carroll and Harrison Soil and Water Conservation Districts, NRCS and OSU Extension are offering a series of free programs on backyard food production from March to October. This program encourages the utilization of your backyard or unused green space for food production while creating wildlife habitat and supporting the conservation of our natural resources. This is a great program for gardeners of all skill levels. See attached flier for more information.

    Growers and others interested in learning more about the Ohio hops research at The Ohio State University can attend tours of its hop fields in both Piketon and Wooster. The Hops Production to Enhance Economic Opportunities for Farmers and Brewers project is offering early stage growers, advanced growers and anyone else interested in hops production an opportunity to tour the hop research trials. The trials are taking place at The Ohio State University South Centers in Piketon and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster.

    This free hands-on field day focuses on technology, and farmers will be able to talk with OSU Extension educators about the challenges they’ve faced with this year’s growing season. The event will also offer farmers and crop consultants a chance to learn more about corn fertility and nitrogen placement. Topics will include: drone demonstration, GreenSeeker technology demonstration, corn fertility present and future, nitrogen plot study, and a corn variety trials demonstration.

    OSU Extension Champaign County and the Champaign Soil and Water Conservation District are offering a soil health workshop series beginning in September – for farmers interested in learning more about soil health and fertility. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants. The registration is cost is only $25 for four meetings, thanks to a Top of Ohio RC&D grant, 4R Tomorrow grant and the Ohio Soybean Council. Registration includes two soil samples, dinner at the evening meetings and class materials.
