    Producers new to farming or those who operate small farms and ranches can learn how to create a business plan and develop a balance sheet from farm management experts with the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences at The Ohio State University. The 2016 Farm Management School, a five-session workshop series, will focus on the financial education that goes along with operating a successful farming operation, said Sam Custer, an OSU Extension educator who is organizing the program.

    OSU Extension Champaign County and the Champaign Soil and Water Conservation District are offering a soil health workshop series beginning in September – for farmers interested in learning more about soil health and fertility. The workshop will be limited to 25 participants. The registration is cost is only $25 for four meetings, thanks to a Top of Ohio RC&D grant, 4R Tomorrow grant and the Ohio Soybean Council. Registration includes two soil samples, dinner at the evening meetings and class materials.

    January 19 – 7pm February 2 – 7pm February 16 – 7pm Each session will be broadcast locally via an internet link. University educators and industry representatives have served as resource people who have addressed a wide variety of topics about beef cattle production. Participants will be able to interact with the speakers by posting questions via internet at each location.

    The 2016 West Ohio Agronomy Day was held on January 11 in Fort Loramie. Featured speakers this year were: Fred Whitford, Purdue University pesticide education; Bob Nielsen, Purdue University agronomy; Pierce Paul, The Ohio State University plant pathology; and John Fulton, The Ohio State University ag engineering.

    The 2016 Farm Management Seminar, a five-session workshop series, will focus on the financial education that goes along with operating a successful farming operation. Although the farm management school targets those who are new to agricultural fields, any farmer, producer or agriculture-related industry person is welcome to attend. The goal of the program is to help young and beginning farmers learn how to become financially savvy and how to make their agricultural operations successful.
